hair

Has winter’s blustery weather caught up with your mane? Are your locks in need of a small (or big) pick-me-up? Don’t worry. You are not alone.

You are also not too far from a solution. These three do-it-yourself (DIY) hair treatments use everyday kitchen ingredients you probably already have on hand. They aren’t tricky. Nor are they invasive or cumbersome. In fact, they are pretty darn easy.

For Dull Color – Coconut Oil

Is your hair looking a little tired? Coconut oil to the recue. Starting at your hair’s mid-shaft and moving to the ends, apply three to four tablespoons to your hair. Wrap your hair in a towel and secure it loosely on the top of your head. Wait 20 to 30 minutes. Then hop in the shower and shampoo and condition like normal.

For Split Ends – Yogurt

Is your hair feeling dry? Are you developing split ends? Yogurt can help. Working again from the mid-shaft, apply ½ cup plain yogurt to your hair, smoothing it to the ends. Wait five minutes and then shower, using shampoo and conditioner as you normally would. (You’ll probably need to shampoo more than once.) The protein in the yogurt helps to protect your hair and mend split ends.

For Flat Hair – Beer

The thought of wasting your hoppy suds on your head might make you a little uneasy, but this refrigerator solution offers a fortifying boost that’s worth it. Whisk ½ cup beer with one egg and two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Apply to hair and let sit for 30 minutes. Then, rinse with cold water. (DO NOT use hot water. It will scramble the eggs.) The result will be soft, bouncy locks.
