Bathroom storage can be hard to come by. In most cases, bathrooms are rather bare bones. Beyond the standard shower, toilet, sink, and mirror, there is normally not a lot else. You might have a small under-the-sink cabinet. But is that really enough to hold all your bathroom goodies? Probably not.
This leaves you with the choice of stacking things in the corner or occupying your home’s other valuable storage space. Neither seems like a good option to us.
Rather, we like to look for ways to create a little more storage in the bathroom itself. If you find yourself in the same boat, this do-it-yourself (DIY) bathroom cabinet is just for you.
Determine where you want the cabinet to go. Often there is a lot of unused space over the toilet. This makes it a great place to hang a cabinet.
We are fans of Craftsman Drive, a blog that outlines some fantastic DIY projects – including the steps to making your own bathroom cabinet. See his tutorial here.
One of the key takeaways from the post is the use of an antique window frame. Mr. LMB, the author, could certainly have visited his local hardware store to pick up a frame of his choosing. We think his DIY cabinet would have lost something. Using a vintage window frame gave the cabinet an immense amount of character.
As an added bonus, buying used means finding deals. In preparation for building your own DIY bathroom cabinet, visit your local second hand stores. You will be able to find a variety of options. You don’t even have to use a window. Find a small vintage door your like? That will work too!
The ultimate goal is to pick something that is aesthetically pleasing and to have fun.
